It’s always a great time to jump into the world of App Development on Discord. Anyone can create an app for Discord, whether you’re a solo hobby dev, a small developer group, or have a huge team behind your app, Discord is the best place to bring your idea to life and bring it in front of potential millions of users.
But some ideas can grow BIG and may need a bit of financial help to get ‘em rolling — and we want to help.
Today, we’re announcing the App Pitches Program! It’s simple: tell us something incredible you want to build on Discord. Have an idea for an app that supports your local organizations? What about a fun game that everyone will love? Or an app that fills a very specific niche within your hobbies and interests. Tell us all about it and you might receive funding to hit the ground running at full speed.
We’re looking for one of the coolest, most supportive Discord app ideas within these categories:
The top ideas and pitches will receive funding directly from our Ecosystem Fund: Each category winner will receive $5,000 in funding. Winners are eligible for an additional $10,000 if their project is completed within 60 days of receiving their initial funding, bringing the total prize pool across all five categories to $75,000. Judges include Discord's VP of Engineering Prachi Gupta, Netflix's Brand Manager Colin Parajon, and many more rad individuals.
Once all the submissions are reviewed, our panel of expert judges will reach out to those with the most unique, exciting, and downright cool pitches and offer up to $15,000 to help fund their app’s development. Ready to pitch? Submissions open on September 26, 2023 and will be accepting submissions until October 10 2023, so be sure to submit your pitch in time!
Our lawyers say we have to mention the following lines, so sit up straight when you read the following section: the App Pitches Program is open to users 18 and older, or users between the ages of 13-18 who provide proof of permission from their guardian in accordance with Discord's requirements, and who have accounts in good standing on the platform. Users residing in Brazil, the Canadian province of Quebec, or Italy are not eligible. You’ll find all the rules, eligibility, terms, and the formal details below:
We’ll be sharing the top submissions that will be receiving funding in this very blog — bookmark this page and keep an eye out for the next batch of incredible Discord apps from our thriving Developer community. Maybe you’ll find a new app you’ll want to use on your server, too!

Can you believe it? Our newest class of Discord Interns has left their mark on the platform.
They came from different places and focused on different fields, but they all worked on one overarching goal: to help make Discord better for everyone. They’ve all grown immensely, overcome challenges, and even flew in to meet each other in person during this year’s company-wide on-site event!
So, let’s meet ‘em! We sat down with this year’s Discord Interns to ask them how they found the opportunity to spend a summer at Discord, what they learned, and advice for anyone looking to become an Intern in the future!
Serrana, a Software Engineering- Machine Learning Platform Intern, grew up in Uruguay and was living abroad during Covid. During the height of the pandemic, Serrana started using Discord to help feel less alone.
Lee, this year’s Legal Intern, discovered their passion for Law during college and took the opportunity to join Discord as a summer Intern for more hands-on in the legal field.
Thijs joined as a Product Engineering - Messaging Intern, but this wasn’t their first Discord development experience — he’s already an App developer for the well-known Truth or Dare Discord app in over a million servers.
Computer science student Caleb joined Discord this year as a Product Engineering - Design Systems Intern. Thanks to their inspiring college professor, web development and UI/UX quickly became their focused passion.
Liang is a data science and machine learning Ph.D. student, always wanting to learn how to apply ML models in real life, making Discord a great place to put some of that excitement to work as a Data Science Intern - Machine Learning Intern.
Paul grew up in a small town in the Philippines, but his view of the world grew exponentially when he met friends from all over the world playing online games. Starting his adventures in Runescape and soon traveling to more than forty countries in the real world, he eventually moved to the US to study at Stanford and found an opportunity to be our Strategy and Business Planning Intern.
Kaylee is a Security Intern who also happens to be a Stanford University student, is a computer science major and a long-time Discord user using the app for what it’s best known for: being a great place to game with friends.
Throughout these interviews, you’ll also see responses from Kelly, a Product Engineering - Revenue Infrastructure Intern, and Chenxi, who joined as a Data Engineering Intern.
We’d also like to give a shoutout to Janelle, this year’s Product Design Intern who made the banner on this very blog — it’s a beauty!
Here are the Discord updates from September 13, 2023. You can also find the most recent updates in the Discord app under Settings > What's New.
Update: This feature is now available on all Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles.
Last year, Discord partnered with Xbox to bring the ability to chat in Voice with friends directly on Xbox as part of our quest to help people connect from their favorite platforms through Discord.
And, we continue to be the best place for players to talk, connect and play with their friends. When we introduced streaming to players on PC and mobile, we wanted to help recreate the feeling of your friends lounging on the same couch, playing their favorite games and joking with each other, in a virtual environment from anywhere in the world. As cross-play between platforms continues to grow, so does our journey of bringing players together, wherever they play.
Streaming your game on Discord is a great way to socialize with your buddies. Some use it to show off a new party game to their friends, while others stream single-player games to share their character builds and spread the word on hidden areas. The more hardcore players even use streaming to show off their competitive skills and clutch plays in multiplayer matches!
At the end of the day, streaming a game you love on Discord is a way to connect and bond with your friends, no matter what you happen to be playing. But this experience has been exclusive to PC and mobile users...
…until now.
Today, we’re stoked to announce one of the most requested Discord features: the ability to stream games from your Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One console directly to Discord.
Now, the next time you get a fancy drop for your character build, your friends can see exactly what it is rather than you having to say “uhhh it’s Orange, it gives 115 armor, and makes my attacks all icy.” Or share what horror game you’re playing, because sometimes you just need a bit of motivation to go down the dark and scary hallway.
Stream to Discord was initially available to Xbox Insiders first, and is now available to all. The best part? We are far from finished, and we’ll have more news to share alongside our friends at Xbox later this year.
For more info on how Stream to Discord works, take a peek at the next section!
Streaming your game from Xbox to Discord is just as easy as talking with your friends using Discord Voice on Xbox!
If you’ve never connected your Xbox account to Discord, keep reading. If you’ve already connected your Xbox account to use Discord Voice chat on your console, skip down to either the “Stream to a Discord Server” or “Stream to a DM” sections.
This is what makes the magic happen. First, head into User Settings > Connections on Discord for desktop or mobile. Within the Connections menu, you’ll see an Xbox logo. Click that, sign into your Microsoft account, and you’ll be all set up!
If you’ve already connected your accounts in the past to use Discord Voice on Xbox, there’s no need to re-connect your accounts.
✨ Congratulations✨ : you’ve completed the most complex part of this entire process. Now for the easy bit: streaming to Discord!
Once you’re all connected, the next time you press the Xbox button on your controller and open the Parties & Chats tab on your Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One, select Discord, then scroll to one of your available servers and join a Voice channel. You’ll be placed in that community’s Voice channel. Select “Stream your game” when you’re ready to start streaming.
Final step: enjoy!
Nitro members can even utilize the sweet streaming perks provided by their subscription and Stream to Discord in HD quality, up to 1080p and increased framerates! Perfect for keeping up with speedy racers, showing off gorgeous game worlds, or getting a high-quality view of the puzzle you’re asking your friends for help with.
Want to stream your gameplay to a DM call or a Group DM? Join your DM call on desktop or mobile, then use the “Transfer to Xbox” button to move your DM conversation to your Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One. Once moved over, the “Stream your game” option will appear in the Xbox guide, just like if you were in a server call.
Not in the mood to stream your game the second you join Voice? No worries — select a server and voice channel where you want to hang with your friends and start talkin’ away. Once you’re ready to stream your game, just hit the Xbox button again and select “Stream your game.”
For the finer details on how streaming or transferring works, be sure to check out either Discord’s Help Center article on Connecting Your Accounts if you’ve never connected an account before, or Xbox’s Support article on Streaming to Discord if you’re all connected and ready to stream your gameplay.
The teams at both Xbox and Discord are incredibly excited about native game streaming to Discord, and we hope you are, too — and we’re just as hyped for what the future holds between Xbox and Discord.
Xbox streaming to Discord happened because of you, the users and Xbox players, who let us know what you want to see come to Discord. If you’ve got more ideas on how to make Discord even better, be sure to voice your thoughts on our Feedback Forums! We’re always open to your ideas.
It’s almost time to dust off your backpack and hit the campus library: a new school year is about to begin for many students around the world!
For people starting up their studies again, Discord has become a hub for building connections, furthering education, and empowering campus communities. Whether you’re collaborating on a project worth half your grade in your newly-created study server, or taking a break from hittin’ the books to get a few games in with your friends, it’s all happening on Discord thanks to a ton of amazing third party developers.
To celebrate Back to School, here are the best study and friendship-focused features, apps, and Activities on Discord.
What’s the most important part of school? That’s correct: YOUR STUDIES!
And when it’s time to sit down at your desk and get to work, Discord’s here to help. Need advice on your next essay? Looking for some motivation to finally tackle all your classwork? In search of tips to help keep everything organized? We’ve got you covered better than an overstuffed backpack with poor weight distribution.
We’ve scoured through the App Directory and Discord Activities for some of the best Discord-owned and third-party Apps and Activities for Discord that will make learning feel like you’re talking to a friend. Even if you’re not officially enrolled in classes, you’ll still be able to learn something new.
Since Discord’s also on iOS and Android, you can jump into some study sessions and learn something new with your friends wherever you go.
When it comes to studying, it’s often much easier to explain concepts visually rather than just talking about them. Jamspace Whiteboard is an Activity developed by Discord that you can launch within a Voice channel or DM call, directly within Discord by clicking the Rocket Ship button! (Don’t know what Activities on Discord are? Read all about ‘em here.)
Having a digital whiteboard can be a great way to collaboratively study with your friends and map out anything you’d like. Post sticky notes and move them around a flow chart, collab on a math problem, sketch out a prototype, point to a specific area of text, mark the best one with a star, and so much more. Don’t forget to carve out a portion of the whiteboard just for doodling and academically appropriate gifs, of course. The possibilities are as vast as your imagination!
The hardest part of studying? Just paws-ing everything else to get things done. With LionBot, you’ve got the purrfect Discord companion to keep your entire community maintaining great study habits.
With the ability to create dedicated studying channels, profile cards to show who’s hit study milestones, and timers to allow everyone to take a much-needed break between sessions, LionBot will become the pride of your study habits.
The Discord Algebra System (a third-party app for Discord and not a video game console) is here to provide your study server the ability to display, solve, and graph equations quickly and accurately. It can display what particular equations look like as an embedded image, figure ‘em out for you, and both expand and simplify expressions for when the equation you’re trying to solve is just a bit too lengthy.
Now DAS what we call a great math app! Bring the Discord Algebra System into your study group for guidance in your mathematical studies.
When your studying plans are a structured list of things to tackle, TStudy is your app! This particular studying app on Discord lets you create a task list to track your study progress and allows you to share that same tracker with your peers.
Need to prepare for that big exam? Try out its dedicated study timer that uses the Pomodoro method to block off time so you can focus on what’s important. Multiple server members can join your timed study session, bringing the feeling of a cozy library study session to your Discord community.
Would you rather use a Discord App that helps you learn a language? Or do you prefer to practice a new language with your friends? ¿Por qué no los dos?
Memrise is an AI language-learning chatbot to help you and your friends speak a language like a local. Use “/learn together” to start a Thread with anyone in your community who wants to learn a language together. Or, type in “/learn solo” to start a private chat with the app, practice your skills, and return to the conversation fluent in multiple languages.
Whether you’re a beginner looking to practice a new language outside of class, or an experienced speaker looking for new ways to challenge yourself, Memrise is there to help you learn 24/7.
Our goal is to make Discord the best place to talk and hang out with friends online. And when we say “talk,” we mean it literally: at any given moment, millions of people across the globe are talking in voice or video calls on Discord.
We know that keeping your calls private is a big part of feeling secure online. At Discord, user privacy has always been one of our highest values and priorities.
At the same time, we rely on servers all over the world to deliver robust, low-latency voice and video calls. In fact, we regularly add additional server locations. As we continue to expand internationally, we do our best to protect your calls from prying eyes and ears, no matter where servers are located.
That’s why we are beginning to experiment with new encryption protocols and technologies for voice and video calls on Discord. These protocols would support best-in-class performance and large calls without quality degradation or additional latency.
End-to-end encryption is designed to allow only the participants in a call to decipher its contents. One of the protocols we’re experimenting with is called Messaging Layer Security, which we believe would allow us to deliver end-to-end encryption at scale. Intermediaries, including platforms like Discord, are unable to access the content of communications encrypted with end-to-end encryption.
We’re starting to experiment and don’t yet know how or if these technologies will be deployed for our users, but we’ll be consulting with experts in the field along the way. As we recently explained, we don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach to different spaces and experiences on Discord. Our current encryption experiments do not apply to Stages, which are designed for a different type of communication and rely on different technical systems than those used for other calls.
Privacy and safety are each core values at Discord. As we work to protect our users’ privacy, we’ll continue to invest heavily in safety features, technologies and systems.
As we experiment with encryption technologies over the coming months, we’ll be listening to feedback and iterating rapidly. Stay tuned.
Have you ever found a user at your company who actually likes using multi-factor authentication (MFA), either time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) or push-based MFA? Either method adds friction for users by necessitating a second device for logins while increasing the cost to attackers. However, both have problems. SMS MFA is widely regarded as insecure because of the proliferation of SIM jacking attacks that allows for intercepting SMS-delivered MFA codes— but TOTP MFA is also phishable.
MFA push notifications are also trivially easy to overcome. People’s attention can easily be exhausted. Look no further than Uber’s recent security incident in mid-September last year; that was the likely entrypoint Lapsus$ exploited in order to gain access to Uber’s internal systems.
Moreover, TOTP and push MFA are difficult to use frequently. They don’t vet that you’re logging in on a known device in a known location. They require use of a third-party authenticator app. Users lose their phones, and it’s difficult to have codes available on multiple devices. Some authenticator apps do support backing up TOTP secrets to a cloud account although backups are not typically enabled by default, which leaves users hanging out to dry if they lose access to their authenticator app.
Back when I joined Discord, a staff engineer on my team had been pushing for us to adopt “WebAuthn”, and soon. I’d heard of it of course, but they pointed us to a thread from Dev at Figma chronicling their adoption of WebAuthn. WebAuthn and other hardware-based MFA mechanisms significantly reduce the incidence of account takeovers (ATOs) at companies like Google and Coinbase:
In 2022, after completing our migration from Google Workspace to Okta as our primary Identity Provider, our focus turned to answering this question - Our corporate user authentication strategy is great, but how can we continue to improve on it? We decided then was a good time to roll out WebAuthn everywhere.
This has been a transformative step for our security posture, and we want to walk you through how we did it, including both choices we made that worked out great and choices we made that we wish we hadn’t made. Read on, and we can hopefully help you with your migration!
The Web Authentication API (also known as WebAuthn) is a specification written by the W3C and FIDO, with the participation of Google, Mozilla, Microsoft, Yubico, and others. The API allows servers to register and authenticate users using public key cryptography instead of a password.
source: webauthn.guide
WebAuthn leverages public key cryptography to generate a unique keypair per device-site pairing. The private key is securely stored on your device; the website gets the public key, and is used to validate the handshake initiated during sign-in.
The advantages of an approach like this are that WebAuthn is:
https://webauthn.guide is a great site with a lot more info; anything I state here will just restate what they say, so I highly recommend diving in there.
Here are the Discord updates from July, 2023. You can also find the most recent updates in the Discord app under Settings > What's New.
Summer is the perfect time for gaming! For players of all genres, summer means catching up on the backlog you've been building up before the next set of releases happens in the fall. For those without a traditional summer break, gaming at any time helps you escape the daily monotony of your everyday routine, harkening back on those summer nights gaming with your best buds. Sometimes you just wanna relive the Halo 3 days, ya’know?
No matter where you play, Discord is the ideal place to hang out and strategize on the game you’re playing. Or, don’t even talk about the game itself at all! Your gaming convos don’t necessarily have to be strictly about the game you’re playing. Talk about your strats in the next round of your competitive shooter or just grind dungeons solo as you talk about your week.
Today, we’re revealing some of the most-played games that YOU, the gamers of Discord, are playing day in and day out. Gather your friends, grab your preferred controller or keyboard and a mic to talk with, and jump into Discord’s most popular games while using Voice chat on your Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PC, or mobile.
Like we said, this isn’t just a list that we threw together of games that we like (although we wouldn’t say no to playing a few of ‘em). The following games are the most played by users on Discord. Naturally, since people use Discord to communicate while playing, they all have some sort of multiplayer support.
We’ll tell you about each game and what platforms it’s available on. If you’re down to play any of them using a console, learn how to use Discord Voice using the following links:
League of Legends has been around the block for over 14 years now, and it’s still one of the go-to MOBAs around (or, “Multiplayer Online Battle Arena” if you really wanna say the whole thing). Two teams of five players each, defending the giant crystal in the middle of their base. Your objective? Go in the enemy base and beat it up until it explodes.
Simple enough on paper, but with over 140 characters to choose from each with multiple unique abilities, and a mind-boggling amount of variables, equipable items, and obstacles in the way, you’ll want to recruit all your friends on Discord to jump on Voice and tag along for the best chance at winning. Or, just spend hundreds of hours laughing at each other’s mistakes — it’s always a learning experience!
What’s Roblox? Honestly, what ISN’T Roblox?! It’s not just one particular game: it’s grown into its own platform where players can create anything they want, any genre, any mood or style, and share their experience with the world.
Everything from life sims to shooters, to real-life recreations and games that require their own dedication. Some players play a variety of games, while others may spend hundreds of hours on just ONE game in Roblox. There’s a crazy amount of community-run Discord servers out there centered around specific Roblox experiences, so start off with the largest one below and go from there!
First announced as a base-building, tower-defending game, Fortnite has become THE go-to Battle Royale game for years. It’s got character outfits for nearly everyone’s personality, an expansive amount of different IPs to create the ultimate squad, and plenty of ways to experience Fortnite without the need to be all shooty-shooty.
Play Fortnite’s popular Battle Royale mode, ease the stakes with some standard Team Deathmatch-style gametypes, or explore community-created game types (called “Islands”) that bring everything from obstacle courses and musical concerts to management simulators and haunted houses. You and your friends could spend days playing and screen-sharing every single Island that catches your eye!
Minecraft’s got everything you could ever want: from built-in Survival and Creative modes available on every platform to a nearly never-ending amount of community-made visual upgrades, add-ons, and entirely new game modes made by its thriving modding scene. Plus, you can run the PC version on basically any computer that can run a spreadsheet.
Start a server where all your friends can spend all day exploring in a Voice call together, and check in for a few minutes on the mobile version of Minecraft. Or for the true tinkerers, plan out the perfect Minecraft mod setup in a Discord channel and the way you want the Java-based edition for PC — just keep in mind if you play the Java edition, you’ll only be able to play with others using the PC Java version.
Starting off as a community-made mod for Half-Life in 1999, Counter-Strike’s current iteration, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, is free to play for anyone to download and try on Steam. It’s been around for so long, you likely know a friend or server Discord server mutual who can show you the ropes if you’ve never played before. Or, I’m aging myself here… maybe your parents used to play Counter-Strike?
Plus, there’s finally a numbered sequel to Counter-Strike coming this year, aptly named Counter-Strike 2! But don’t let a new game on the horizon stop you from trying out Counter-Strike right now: any cosmetics you earn in CS:GO will transfer to CS2, so there’s no harm in picking up an AWP, jumping in and screensharing your sick 5 v 1 win on Discord.
Become the Champion of the Arena in Apex Legends, a Battle Royale game where squads of up to three vie for supremacy against up to 60 other players at once. Unlike other Battle Royale games where everyone has the same “base” character, Apex Legends lets you pick from a selection of characters known as Legends, each with their own unique abilities.
Your group chat likely has that one person who DMs everyone to make sure they’re doing well who’d make a great medic, the ideal scout that’s always surveying the vibes before saying something, or the crazed one hopping between different Voice channels every five minutes. No matter the personality, you’ll all find the perfect Legend to fit your style and become Champions, together.
Take some of the core components of a competitive tactical shooter, the unique character roster of a hero shooter, mash ‘em together and you get Valorant: a 5v5 tactical shooter that incorporates characters, called Agents, with their own unique abilities that can turn the tides of battle.
Get the drop on the enemy team with your trusty rifle, or use one of the many Agent abilities to clutch that 1v5 battle and win for your squad. If you’re one for strategizing with your friends in a Discord call to outsmart the opposing team, Valorant may be the perfect game for ya. Plus, there’s a bunch of pretty (and pretty crazy) weapon skins to show off in Discord servers as you claim victory.
There’s a reason Grand Theft Auto V is still played after nearly ten years: it’s an open-world game where you can freely explore a huge city, cause havoc in a multitude of ways, with both a lengthy, compelling single-player campaign and a multiplayer component that’s received constant updates for almost a decade.
Los Santos is your playground to leave destruction in your wake, do some actually-friendly taxi or ambulance work in single player, or become one of the most renowned crime lords in its multiplayer component, GTA Online. Hop into Discord and plan out some bank heists, matchmake in Team Deathmatch and Race modes, or just vibe and explore the city together. And this is all before even considering diving into the sprawling modding scene.
As the newest release on this list, Diablo IV is a dungeon-diving, XP-grinding, demon-hunting fest where you’ll create a character from one of five classes and save the area known as Sanctuary. Party up with up to four of your friends, or roam around solo and start an impromptu squad with other players roaming the land — be sure to tell ‘em how to call you on Discord though!
Once a quarterly season begins, everyone creates a new character for the season. This’ll let you try out new classes while starting on the same playing field as long-time Diablo enjoyers. Plus, ya’know, it’s Diablo: sometimes you just wanna mindlessly hunt some demons while talking with your friends about something completely unrelated! Just don’t scream too loudly in Voice when you get a sick Unique drop.
Simply saying “Call of Duty” encompasses a lot: there are people dipping their toes into free-to-play Call of Duty: Warzone’s Battle Royale and DMZ modes, while others are grinding for hours in Modern Warfare 2 or still kickin’ around in Black Ops III Zombies.
Call of Duty continues to be one of the most played games EVER, not just on Discord. And for good reason: it’s a solid foundation where gunplay feels finely crafted after years of releases, and each title released offers massive amounts of content. Nearly everyone has their favorite Call of Duty entry, and your planned game night on Discord might turn into a heated debate on which one was the best.

Today, we’re highlighting some amazing AI-powered apps from our creative Discord Developer community.
You might be asking: Why celebrate a tool like AI? We believe in its value in aiding hanging out and having fun with friends. On Discord, rather than just going solo with an app, you can supercharge your conversations and share the experience of seeing what sorts of exciting, wild and sometimes silly results come from prompts.
When friends are on Discord together to hang out, play games, or study, they often use apps to give their servers a more personal touch. Just like a treehouse, after you build your server and invite your friends, you decorate it and make it your own, based on hobbies, interests, and topics you care about.
AI-powered apps have made their homes in nearly three million Discord servers, ranging from AI companions, to groups generating gaming assets with AI and AI-based learning communities. More than 30 million people already use AI apps on Discord every month! Whether you’re generating a shiny new avatar or putting into words something you can’t quite figure out on your own, there’s a lot to explore and we love seeing how people are using our platform to discover what’s possible together.
Let's dive into some popular AI apps on Discord:
On Discord, you can use AI to shake up your conversation with friends – catch up on the latest or learn a language together.
No one likes the age-old, open-ended question of: “How has your day been?” Where do you even begin? Will your friends also share how their days have been? And how do you even jumpstart the conversation?
Why, with a freshly-brewed Cappuccino of course! Cappuccino is an app that prompts everyone with one specific question to answer. Their answers are called “beans,” and once everyone answers the question, these beans are brewed together using the latest language models into a written summary just for your community, called a “Cappuccino!”
So how’ve you bean? Just brew up a Cappuccino with your friends to find out.
Memrise is a way to learn to hold conversations in a new language, without leaving your Discord server. Their mobile app is one of the most popular language learning tools in the world, with more than 65 million users. Memrise takes a non-traditional approach to language learning: rather than focusing on teaching you the grammar and syntax of a language, Memrise focuses on teaching you to have conversations in a new language.
Their Discord app is a new way to make this approach to learning a new language even more accessible and more fun: it features a GPT-powered AI chatbot that presents you with exciting challenges. You might find yourself persuading a car salesman to give you a great deal or convincing a barista to treat you to a free coffee.
The app gives you tips and hints if you are stuck, helping you to learn the best replies, and corrects you if you make mistakes. Earn points for completing challenges, with bonus points for accuracy and creativity in your answers.
Discord is about hanging out with friends. Millions of people across the world come here to build community and discuss all sorts of topics, play both casual and competitive games, and sometimes even learn something new! It's a space where people can be themselves and spend time with others who share their interests and hobbies. We want everyone to experience the joy of Discord, find belonging, and build community. That’s why we’ve made safety a top priority.
In addition to building safety features that both parents and teens can use to customize their Discord experience, we regularly update our community guidelines to further efforts to protect our users, especially teens, and recently launched a new Safety Center containing more information and resources on building a safer Discord experience.
Everyone’s online safety needs and expectations are different, which is why we broadly invest in diverse sets of tools and resources to support our users. That’s why as a next step we’re excited to introduce the Family Center.
Discord's Family Center is a new opt-in tool that makes it easy for teens to keep their parents and guardians informed about their Discord activity while respecting their autonomy. Similar to how parents know who their teens are friends with and what clubs they’re a part of at school, Family Center helps them learn more about who their teens are friends with and talk to on Discord. Our goal with Family Center is to help foster productive dialogue about safer internet habits, and to create mutually beneficial ways for parents and teens to connect about experiences online.
Read on to learn more about Family Center, how parents, guardians and teens can set up the new tool and learn what’s shared (and what isn’t).
Discord’s Family Center has two major components: a new activity dashboard accessible from Discord at any time, and a weekly email summary containing high level information about your teen’s activity. You’ll find the Family Center in User Settings > Family Center.
To get started, we require both you and your teen to complete setup through the official Discord app. Each step in the setup process is designed to protect your teen’s account. Teen account activity is not shared in Family Center without their consent.
After you and your teen have discussed using this feature together, you’ll need to ask them for a QR code easily generated in Family Center. It’s important to know that these QR codes are unique and only active for a short amount of time. So if another parent is ready to connect their account with your teen they’ll have to repeat these steps. Once you complete setup, we’ll notify you every time a new parent is connected to your teen in Family Center.
Teen accounts connected to yours via Family Center will share the following information with you in a dashboard that is accessible in-app at any time:
Once your teen has accepted your connection request, the Family Center will populate with details about their activity on Discord within the last seven days. This includes the number of users they’ve messaged or called, the number of new friends they’ve added, and how many servers they’re actively participating in. Family Center won’t contain a complete archive of activity and will only highlight activity occurring after your teen has accepted your connection request.
In addition to the in-app Family Center, you’ll also receive a weekly recap of this information via email. Keep an eye out in the email address associated with your Discord account for the latest activity updates.
The Family Center is designed to help trusted guardians stay informed on how their teens use Discord at a high level. As such, it’s important to remember that with the Family Center, you’ll know which users your teen is talking to and what Discord communities they’re participating in, but you won’t be able to see the contents of the conversations themselves.
If you have questions or concerns about the people or servers your teen is engaging with, we encourage you to have a conversation with them directly about maintaining healthy online habits or ask them about their newest friends or communities.
For additional guidance on setting up the Family Center, take a look at the Family Center support article.
“Discord is a place where you’ll always feel like you belong.” It’s a lofty goal for both the community leaders who create communities around the world and by our teams creating accessibility features that make Discord itself usable with a variety of devices.
The following servers from the Discord Admin Community are exemplary examples of community spaces on Discord that take into consideration everyone on the platform. No matter your participation level, how you navigate Discord, or what device you use to talk with your friends, there’s a place for you here.
Discord started out as a place where people can come together around gaming. It shouldn’t matter if you’re able-bodied or adapt your game to fit your needs, as long as you’re having fun playing.
The Kuni Corner community is a prime example of not letting any sort of obstacles get in the way of what you enjoy. Led by Vinesauce team member Imakuni, it’s grown from a simple sub-only server into a space that Imakuni says is “extremely friendly & open to newcomers.”
“I frequently have [members] of the community that are disabled — some with my same ailment of Fibromyalgia — check up on each other's physical and mental state,” Imakuni says. “Sometimes it's extremely rough, but banding together to talk about our disabilities helps us get through things easier because we know we're not alone.”
And of course, what’s a good streamer community without some games? Imakuni usually streams Nintendo and SEGA games with a particular focus on platformers, RPGs, and lesser-known titles that deserve to be shared with the world. There’s even a dedicated #sonic-zone in The Kuni Corner, where you’ll likely find friends to play the upcoming Sonic Superstars with. (Invite me too, yeah?)
If you decide to hop on over to the Kuni Corner, consider enjoying some time in the Voice channels! They’ve almost always got activity going on, and Imakuni’s likely to join ya! “I usually spend my own personal time talking to people in the server that want me in their life. My community aims to be an uplifting place that anyone can visit to take their mind off of things.”
Make the Kuni Corner your favorite corner of the internet by finding them in Server Discovery.
When you find a community on Discord that makes you feel like you truly belong, it feels like the perfect dopamine release. And when everyone on the server is there to help you along your personal journey, it’s almost as if it were meant to be.
ADHD Dopamine is a space for anyone diagnosed with, discovering, or wanting to learn how to support a friend or loved one with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) to connect with each other. Here, they can talk about their experiences and share the methods that work best for them as they navigate life with ADHD. It’s a single space where the community can come together and have easy access to peer support, knowledge, and educational resources.
Community leader RaiderGoldenPup explains: “People come into our server all the time where they think they have ADHD but aren't sure. We help them understand why they are thinking the way they are and help them find medical professionals and help [them] figure out what topics need to be brought up to their doctor.”
ADHD Dopamine offers all types of support from dozens of channels with information to plenty of spaces to chat and make new friends. There are App commands that help explain important terminology and a variety of channels to body double, share hyperfixations or just connect with each other. If there are any questions you may have for your peers, if you need to speak with someone who gets it, or to just have fun with similar people, ADHD Dopamine will be there for you.
You can find the ADHD Dopamine community in-app on Server Discovery, or at discord.com/servers.
Seven minutes. Seven minutes is how long it took for you to do the following on your phone: search the internet for “meme generator,” upload the image, save your creation, go BACK into Discord and find the chat you were gonna upload it to and post it. By the time all that happens, the moment’s passed and your sick meme didn’t get the attention it needed.
Soon, you’ll be able to quickly create ‘em, directly within Discord, using Remix.
Remix is a new way to create and contribute your own flair to images uploaded to Discord. Currently in Beta, Remix is launching first in early access for Nitro members. Learn how to remix, create, meme and share below.
You see it: a picture of a cat posted to chat. Not just any picture of a cat, but one with the most perfect loaf form you’ve ever seen. It’s the ideal image to add a caption of “this creature just like me fr fr” to, so why not remix it?
If you’ve got early access to Remix for being a Nitro member, the next time you open up someone else’s image or upload your own, you’ll see a new “Remix” button. Tap that, and let your creativity go wild with a new set of editing tools directly in Discord.
Once you’re done, hit Send to share it with the world (or, ya’know, the chat). You can even remix someone else’s remix! Make it a re-remix, or even a three-mix.
You can crop an image, write over it with a paintbrush, add text, and even add ANY custom emoji and stickers from your servers to your Remix. When your beautiful artwork is ready to share, select “Send” and the image is instantly posted as a reply to the original message. Not ready to post quite yet? You can also directly download your Remix using the “Save” button to the left of “Send.”
Remix is available in Beta for Nitro members on the iOS and Android apps. For additional details on how to crop, draw, write or stick emojis on your upcoming Remix masterpiece, hop on over to the support article.

Since Server Subscriptions first launched in December, thousands of creators have started earning on Discord, offering unique perks and benefits which help engage and grow their communities. To date, we've paid out millions of dollars to thousands of creators and communities, and we're seeing more creators and communities earning on their Discord servers every day.
For creators and communities who haven’t tried out these features yet, we’ve heard your feedback: you want more ideas on what to offer, more tools to add value to your subscriptions, and the ability to sell different types of products on Discord.
Today, we’re excited to share new tools that help you get started earning money faster. Over the next few months, you’ll be able to create more value for your existing Server Subscriptions and utilize entirely new ways to earn money on Discord with one-time purchases.
If you’re a content creator looking to level up your Server Subscriptions offering, consider checking out the Media Channels Beta. Media Channels are a new media-first channel type in Beta that enables you to pamper your subscribers like never before, and will start rolling out today to all Community servers with Server Subscriptions enabled.
Use a Media Channel added to a Server Subscription tier to give your subscribers lavish insider content, such as early access to your latest behind the scenes content drops, bonus pics, and the cherry on top: exclusive memes and wallpapers!
Don’t forget to share your exclusive Media Channel posts to other public channels in your server, that way non-subscribers will learn about your snazzy sub-only Media Channels and consider subscribing to your server!
Host intimate subscriber-only streams as a high value item for your community. Recently, we announced the addition of Video, Screen Sharing and Text in Voice in Stage Channels and we’re already seeing communities offering a range of unique and intimate video streaming experiences for their Server Subscriptions, such as coaching sessions, Q&A’s, or intimate weekly game streams. If you’re offering perks to your subscribers, it’s a good idea to ask your community for feedback from time to time to learn of their interests and customize your offerings accordingly. (They’re the ones paying, after all!)
With Tier Templates, getting started with Server Subscriptions has never been easier. Simply browse and select a template that best aligns with your desired price point, perk offerings and goals. After selecting a template, you can customize it to fit your community’s unique needs. Then, click to launch your paid tier subscription!

Still on the fence about launching Server Subscriptions for your community? Gain some inspiration from these stories about a few successful creators and communities that are earning with their Discord server.
Remember: Not every opportunity to generate revenue needs to become a get-rich-quick scheme. Some communities use their monetization offerings to reinvest back into their server by releasing new content, running more events, and providing memorable experiences for @everyone that are made possible by the income contributed by their most dedicated members.
One example of this is Woohoojin, who’s created a chaotic yet charitable community in Club Banana. Check ‘em out below!
If you already have a Discord server, you can click here to get started with Server Subscriptions. New to Discord? You’ll find the option to enable Server Subscriptions in Server Settings > Server Subscriptions, under the Monetization category.
Discord is the place to talk online, whether that’s one-on-one, in small groups, or in larger communities organized around shared interests. We know that talking with a family member or close friend in a DM is different from a group chat, and that a group chat is very different from participating in a community with millions of users. Discord enables each of these different forms of communication across the more than 9 million active servers on our platform, but we don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach to privacy and content moderation across all of them.
There have been a lot of questions and discussions recently about what it means to feel safe online, and how people should think about privacy on communications platforms like Discord. We want Discord to be a place where everyone can feel safe, find belonging, and hang out with the most important people in your lives.
Today we’re making some changes that clarify expectations and policies for different spaces on Discord. People use Discord in different ways for different experiences. By providing more information on how spaces are defined on Discord and what users can expect in different spaces, we’re empowering users to better control their Discord experience.
That’s why today’s product update distinguishes among different spaces and provides enhanced server badges to make those spaces easier to identify, manage, and navigate. Here’s more detail on how we’re taking a tailored approach to safety and privacy on Discord:
Friend Servers (as well as direct messages and group direct messages) are invite-only spaces designed to talk and hang out with your friends or smaller groups. In these spaces, Discord:
Starting today, new invite links for Friend Servers will expire at a maximum of 30 days. Any previously created non-expiring links will remain active and will still not expire.
Community Servers are invite-only spaces designed for people to talk, connect and learn from others who share a common interest. A server’s administrators must opt-in for their server to become a Community Server. In Community Servers with more than 200 members, we take a more proactive and automated approach to safety in line with our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. In these spaces, Discord follows the same core procedures as those for Friend Servers and also:
Discoverable Servers are a subset of Community Servers that have met specific additional requirements to appear in Server Discovery, making them more visible to potential members. Anyone on Discord can join these servers. In addition to the Community Server policies listed above, in these spaces Discord:
As we implement these changes, we are embracing four guiding principles.
We are committed to developing and implementing solutions that prioritize both privacy and safety. With these changes, we aim to advance that by enabling individual users to tailor their experience and enabling server admins to better engage with and safely grow their communities.
For more information about these changes, please see our Help Center article.
Since the Stonewall uprising in New York City in June 1969, Pride has become a global movement to celebrate the dignity, power and joy of LGBTQIA+ people and communities around the world. In the face of repression, discrimination and violence, Pride represents standing up for the fundamental equality of all people.
These values — equality, community, belonging — are the reason many people come to Discord. We strive to provide a platform to provide places to talk and where everyone can build genuine, meaningful relationships. LGBTQIA+ users and employees have been an essential part of Discord since our founding in 2015. We are proud that LGBTQIA+ people across the globe have used our service to talk, make friends, find support, establish meaningful relationships and build deep, lasting communities. We are particularly gratified when we hear that communities of Trans-identifying people have found Discord a safe space for important conversations and support.
June is Pride Month, but Discord recognizes and celebrates Pride year-round, starting with our own workplace. We are committed to providing an environment where all employees belong. To support both our Pride ERG members and all Discord employees and their families, we’re proud to provide benefits including our Gender Affirmation Fund and a Medical Travel Fund to receive holistic care anywhere in the United States.
And while June is a time to celebrate Pride and acknowledge that the long arc of justice has moved forward since 1969, it is incredibly important to recognize we are in a moment where there are profoundly serious policy issues directed at the LGBTQIA+ community in the United States and around the world.
Hate has no place on Discord. Making clear Discord’s position, we are proud to be a signatory to the Human Rights Campaign’s Business Statement, which identifies and organizes leading businesses around the country to express opposition to policies targeting LGBTQIA+ people.
This year, Discord will donate to The Transgender Law Center and Equality Florida, two groups helping secure equity for Trans-identifying people. And to continue to stand with our employees on issues of equality impacting the LGBTQIA+ and Trans communities, we will also match all employee donations to those organizations.
To learn more about how Discord supports Inclusion, Diversity, and Purpose efforts and all of our Employee Benefits, including the Gender Affirmation Fund and Medical Travel Fund mentioned above, visit our Careers page. In addition to our own site, read stories from Discord employees and their experiences over on our LinkedIn page.
You’ll always be welcome on Discord, just the way you are.
