To my festive friend,
I’m writing this letter to you while packing up my belongings to depart Snowsgiving Village in the morning — it’s hard to believe another year has already flown by so fast.
Have I ever mentioned how much I love Snowsgiving? It’s absolutely my favorite time of the year: a winter celebration where Discord friends and communities from around the world come together in the holiday spirit, make new friends and support the world through charitable donations.
This year, the Discord community raised $129,017 in support of Crisis Text Line, a not-for-profit organization that empowers a community of more than 55,000 trained volunteer Crisis Counselors to support people in their moments of need. Their team is super grateful for the support and even shared a handful of animated GIFs centered around keeping your mental health at its best.
Everyone deserves to be happy, and I know that even if someone’s in need of someone to talk to once in a while, a promising future is closer to them than ever before thanks to the collective efforts of those celebrating Snowsgiving.
It wouldn’t be Snowsgiving without a little fun! Discord’s Town Hall server got a holiday makeover this year and turned into the Snowsgiving Village we all celebrated in. Throughout the week, we did SOOO much: the Crisis Text Line team held an AMA, we played Discord D&D, watched a drawing session with Discord Staff artists, and witnessed a special co-op speedrun of Stardew Valley. We traversed the streets of Japan together to see the holiday lights, held a tiny guitar performance at a desk, and Charli XCX even stopped by for a special concert for everyone in the Snowsgiving Village. (Wooo, that was a LOT.)
I’m bringing home some cozy Snowsgiving merch to wear at home — if you read this letter early enough, the special merch might still be available! Take a peek at Discord’s merch site and grab some unique Snowsgiving clothing and trinkets, such as those warm seasonal hoodies, really cool Discord dice sets, and Nitro-themed keyboards.
All of Discord’s profits from the Snowsgiving-themed items sold through December 31, 2022 will go directly to Crisis Text Line, and I think you’re really gonna like ‘em.
Along with snow-centric merchandise and charitable fundraising, the Discord app itself got some festive cheer! Nitro subscribers adorned their avatars with wintery frames around them, and a special holiday soundpack was released for calls and notifications. There were even special winter-themed versions of four of our Activities: Sketchheads, Bobble League, Checkers in the Park and Chess in the Park — it’s truly the ideal way to play chess at a real snowy park to avoid sitting on a soggy bench.
If you’d still like to try out the winter-themed Activities in your server’s Voice channels, they’ll be enjoyable until January 3rd, 2023, when the ice will thaw and they’ll return to their usual stylings.
We also created plenty of festive emojis, video backgrounds, profile banners and even playable games that you can enjoy any time of the year. While Snowsgiving may be over, I’ll absolutely be keeping the spirit alive in the coming months with all of these:
- Snowsgiving Emojis & Profile Banners
- Even More Snowsgiving Emojis
- Snowsgiving Video Backgrounds
- A Special Snowsgiving Choose Your Own Adventure... Adventure!
Anyways, I gotta get back to packing up my belongings and head home… my train leaves early tomorrow. In the meantime, you’re welcome to join me and the rest of the Discord community in the Discord Town Hall server to see what other amazing stuff happens there with the Discord community outside of Snowsgiving.
While my train travels through snowy vistas and forested greens, I won’t be sad that it’s gone by so fast. I’ll be daydreaming of the endless possibilities that can happen in the future — reminiscing of all the fun we had during this festive celebration and of our new best friends we met along the way. And together, we’ll bring the spirit and energy of Snowsgiving with us into 2023 and beyond.
See you soon,
Wumpus
P.S. My friends and I drew you a few doodles! ✏️
