Discord and Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil Bring the First-Ever Quest Activation to Life

Discord and Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil are teaming up to bring fans into the world of the new film through a fan event in San Diego during Comic Con as well as launching a Missions Quest campaign on the platform to promote the film. To celebrate the release of the Sony Pictures film, exclusively in theaters on September 18th, fans can experience the world of Resident Evil both on Discord and at the activation, marking the first time Discord has extended a Quest beyond the platform through an immersive, in-person experience.

Mission Quests are a new premium Quests format where brands become part of the experience. Users opt into a Mission Quest on Discord to complete a custom experience tailored to each brand such as a story-driven challenge, earning rewards as they play. Built to drive deeper engagement than traditional advertising, Mission Quests transform passive content into immersive experiences that fans actively choose to participate in.

With a 96% median ad completion rate, Quests have also become a proven way for advertisers to drive discovery and engagement while creating experiences players genuinely enjoy [Source: Discord internal data, March 31st, 2026].

For their Resident Evil feature film campaign, Sony Pictures is tapping into Discord’s Missions Quests format, which help entertainment brands build awareness by transforming their video content such as trailers into rewarding experiences that resonate with fans on Discord. Timed ahead of the film's September 18th theatrical release, the Missions Quests campaign will give fans an opportunity to engage with Resident Evil before they step into the theater.

"Our collaboration with Sony Pictures shows what's possible when media and entertainment brands invite fans to become part of the experience. Mission Quests represent the next addition to our Quests portfolio of reward-based advertising, helping brands connect with Discord's highly engaged community through experiences that drive discovery, participation, and lasting engagement."

Discord and Sony Pictures are co-producing the Resident Evil experience at Quartyard in San Diego. Fans can watch the film trailer, see exclusive content, win prizes, and receive promotional merch at the Discord Shop, and connect with fellow Resident Evil fans in an immersive environment inspired by the film.

The experience marks the first time Discord has brought to life a Quests campaign with a physical activation, extending the potential for Quests beyond the platform and into the real world. Following its debut at the activation on July 23rd, the Resident Evil Quest campaign will launch globally on Discord, giving fans the opportunity to watch and earn rewards.

The Resident Evil campaign represents the latest evolution of Discord's advertising business and demonstrates how Mission Quests create new opportunities for brands to build deeper relationships with highly engaged communities. Since launching in beta, Mission Quests have driven a median of seven minutes of engagement per Mission and average 90% brand recall among users who complete the experience [Source: Discord Internal Research Survey of ~2,500 Mission Quest users, December 2025].
