In this special edition of Changelog, we recap some of the year’s most helpful fixes from our Patch Notes series in the form of a festive poem. At the end of this blog post, you’ll see which fixes are referenced in the poem and which edition of Patch Notes they’re from. 

We’ve made it to the end of the year! Over at Discord HQ, we’ve been looking back on all the small but important things we’ve fixed in 2024 to help make spending time in voice with your friends this season as smooth as possible. 

And in the festive spirit, our bug-smashing reminiscing took the shape of a poem! To cap off the end of 2024, we’d love to share it with you. 

Season’s greetings to all! The year’s at its end.

So gather up close, we’ve got a lot to discuss,

We’ve fixed up some crashes to help iPhones function.

The GIF Picker’s nearly twice as fast as before. [7]
And we gave a speed boost to our API, [8]
So Apps & Activities you’re using will fly.

When it’s time to share all those photos you took, 
We better preserve colors as you remember they look. [9]
Since iPhones regained up to four gigs of space,
You can download ’em all — memories can’t be replaced. [10]

1. In August, we were able to resolve some long-standing, pesky crashes which yielded an 84% reduction in the overall crash rate on iOS devices. 
2. In October, we improved our chat renderer performance on Android devices. 
3. In August, we optimized the Expression Picker on Android (where all your emojis, GIFs, and stickers live).  
4. In November, we massively improved both multitasking and foldable device support.
5. In October, we virtualized the server list on mobile, making for better performance while you’re scrolling through it.
6. In April, we improved how fast you can switch between servers on mobile by over 30%.
7. In May, we optimized the GIF Picker loading times by up to 80%. 
8. In April, we made some infrastructure improvements that resulted in a ~25% reduction in API latency, making most everything a little bit faster! 
9. In May, we started better preserving ICC Color Profile Data in uploaded images so they’re looking just as you intended them to be. ‍
10. In May, we made some changes to how data is stored on the iOS app. Some users regained as much as 4GB of disk space!
